Discounts

A discount is a code shoppers type in their basket to take money off their order.

Each row shows the Name, Code, Type, Value, the date Window, how many times it’s been Used, and its Status. Search by name or code, and filter by status.

Click New discount and fill in:

Field Notes
Name For you. Shoppers don’t see it.
Code What shoppers type. Made from the name if left blank. Letters and numbers only, up to 24 characters, saved in capitals.
Status Active, Draft or Expired.
Type Percent, Amount (USD) or Free shipping.
Value A whole percentage (up to 100), or a dollar amount. Free shipping has no value.
Summary A note for your team. Shoppers don’t see it.
Use a date range Tick to set Starts and Ends.
Type Takes off
Percent That share of the items in the basket.
Amount (USD) That amount, up to the cost of the items.
Free shipping The full price of the shipping option the shopper picked, including carrier rates.

Discounts apply to the items, not to shipping, except for free shipping. If a code makes an order $0, the shopper doesn’t need a card.

  • Starts — leave it blank to start as soon as the code is active.
  • Ends — the last day the code works. Leave it blank to run with no end.

Dates follow your store’s time zone, set in Settings. If none is set, Los Angeles time is used.

Status Meaning
Active Shoppers can use it now.
Scheduled Active, but its start date hasn’t come yet.
Expired Its end date has passed, or you set it to Expired.
Draft Saved, but shoppers can’t use it.

Scheduled and Expired update on their own from the dates, so a code never stays active past its end date.

Shoppers enter the code in Discount code in their basket and click Apply. Codes work in upper or lower case. One code per basket. Applying a second replaces the first.

If a code can’t be used, they see why:

  • [code] is not a code this store has.
  • The code [code] has not started yet.
  • The code [code] has expired.
  • The code [code] is not available. (it’s a draft)

The code is checked again when they place the order. If it’s stopped working in the meantime, they’re asked to remove it first.

The discount shows on the shopper’s order confirmation and on the order in your dashboard, like −$5.00 · SAVE10 (10% off).

Codes have no usage limits, minimum order amounts, or product or customer restrictions yet.

Only owners and admins can create, edit or delete discounts. Everyone on your team can see them.
